Candle behind bible and heart

Servants of Christ

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life to redeem many people” Matthew 20:28

Christ came to earth from heaven in order to do God’s Will. He declared himself God’s servant. He comes to each one of us, and asks “Do you love me?”
Just like Simon Peter, our response to this question is surely a resounding “Yes, Lord”. Why then would we ignore Jesus’s reply to Simon: “Care for my sheep”?
To believe in the resurrection of Christ is to carry His message of loving service out into the world. Offering ourselves to others in service is a visible expression of the tender love that we feel for our Saviour. To serve IS to love. To love IS to serve. By serving, we affirm our belief that Jesus is alive in us, and working through us, to achieve the divine Will of the Father.
How much easier the act of daily chores becomes, when you consider each task as a chance to express your love of Christ through an act of service. The moment that you remember that the shopping and the dishes and the cleaning are all a way of showing love for the people around you, then chores no longer become a burden, but a chance for worshipful action.
To serve a Risen saviour, we too must rise up, walk out of the tomb of our old lives, and live a new life of joy and trust and faith. We should, as the hymn The Servant King says, “bring our lives as a daily offering of worship.”
Only then, after a life of living and trusting in the promises of God, will we at last hear those precious, precious words, “Well done, faithful servant”.

Let us pray:
Glorious God, Risen Lord, we ask you that, whatever challenges the next days and months bring us, we will listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and find a way to make each difficulty an act of worship, offering up our love to You through Christ the Risen Saviour. AMEN
