Thought for June 2025

Rainbow in the clouds

Hope in our Saviour

“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:19

Who’s seen a rainbow after a storm? Isn’t it wonderful?! Doesn’t it always lift your heart a little to catch a glimpse of one?
A rainbow is made by light striking water droplets, splitting the different wavelengths, and revealing all the colours of light normally invisible to our eyes. Understanding the science does not make them any less amazing!
Do you remember all the drawings of rainbows during the Covid pandemic? They were a sign that we knew the storm would pass, that we would get through this terrible time of fear, somehow. We helped to sustain each other through a symbol of hope. We all need hope, and a rainbow is a reminder of God’s promises that there is always a brighter future to look forward to.
If we are not feeling safe, it is because we are fearful. We can learn to control our fear, by having hope for the future. Jesus is our Saviour, and our assurance of ultimate safety. In Him we trust in a positive outcome, no matter what difficulties we face. He gives us hope.
It is that moment when we regain hope, that we are able to set aside our fears, and to feel safe. Our faith will carry us safely through life’s storms, to reach our heavenly harbour.
You only get to see a rainbow after the rain. However, in the midst of any storm, there is still hope and safety to be found, because Jesus is with us. And it is His calm presence, and the assurance that he will never leave us, that gives us the strength to go on.

“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

I pray that all of us, whenever clouds threaten, find shelter and comfort in the arms of our Saviour Jesus Christ. AMEN
