Valuing God’s Creation

The glory of Creation is endless. The patterns on butterfly wings, the vast array of stars on a clear night, a beautiful sunset, or a dolphin leaping for joy from the sea. The bursting of green shoots from planted seeds, or the miracle of a new baby coming into the world. The sound of laughter. The crashing of waves on the shore, and the ebb and flow of the tides.
Our lives are filled every single day with the chance to be uplifted by the world around us, if only we take the time, and make the effort to see the world with fresh eyes, to listen with open ears, to find moments of joy with all our senses.
And, each time we are blessed with a moment of uplifting awe, thanks to the wonders of this world, we need to acknowledge the power of The Creator, God – who saw what He had wrought and declared it “Good”. I encourage you to take time to seek out these moments of beauty. Indulge all your senses, pause a moment, breathe in the love and appreciation of a bountiful God.
God handed His mighty work on Earth over to us, to do as we will. As Christians, we understand we are entrusted with stewardship of this precious and fragile planet. It is part of our Christian discipleship is to safeguard and care for all life on earth, to protect and care for our planet, which in turn also helps to protect those who live on it.
We were granted dominion, in the first Chapter of Genesis, to rule over and subdue the creatures and plants of Earth. To use them for our own ends, to feed and nourish us. The question is, what kind of Rulers have we become? Are humans tyrannical abusers of the planet we live on, or wise and fair stewards of our limited resources? I leave you to decide.
We should care about our planet, because God created it for us. We should care for our neighbours – both friends and strangers alike, because they are also God’s Creation. We should care for ourselves, because God Created us, too. We were wrought with loving care and with individual purpose, like a potter finely shaping clay.
Because we were created in God’s own image, we are capable of showing everyone we meet the light of God shining out from within us. We should look everywhere we go for God’s light shining out from others, no matter how dim it may seem at first!
God sees YOU, His Creation, and knows that is VERY GOOD. Let your light shine out as a symbol of hope in promise in this beautiful, fragile world. AMEN
